Ramblers Group

There are about forty of us who like to go on the rambles. On each ramble there is between ten and thirty people. We go on a ramble about ten times a year. A ramble is arranged by one of our ramble leaders who plan a place for us to go where we have not been recently or before. Most rambles are normally within a twenty minute drive from the church. Rambles last about an hour and are sometimes combined with a meal or socialising. We cater for those who are not serious walkers.

The Rambling dates for 2013 have now been worked out and can be found on the Events Page. More details of the meeting place and who is organising the ramble will be available on the Weekly Printed Notices nearer the time.

Some of the Walks we have previously been on are described below:-

Thursday 16th May 2013

We met in Bursledon during the Early evening. We Walked around the area for about three quarters of an hour. We passed through some Woodland and saw some bluebells some of which were Pink. We also saw a shetland pony and some cattle. There were 16 of us on this Walk.

Thursday 13th September 2012

This was an evening Walk, we went to Eastleigh Lakeside Park where we walked round the lake. There were a lot of children canoeing on the lake. We got passed by the same Runner who was going the other way several times. We saw some small cattle some of which had white patches which made them look like they where wearing coats.

Thursday 19th July 2012

Because of the Saturated ground everywhere it was decided it would be best if we walked on Pavements. We therefore Walked round an area of Eastleigh adjacent to Boyatt Wood. It was a Sunny Evening and we passed Shakespeare and Crestwood Schools and some people working on their allotments. The allotments included Fruit, Vegetables and some Dahlia's and Roses.There were 25 of us on this Walk.

Thursday 14th June 2012

We met at the Hampshire Wildlife Trust Reserve at Swanwick lakes during the Evening. We walked round two of the Lakes on the site, and saw two anglers who each caught a fish. We also saw various flowers. The Rain which fell on us did not spoil our enjoyment of the walk.

Saturday 26th May 2012

We met at the Church during the morning and organised lifts and the walk leader gave us directions to the venue. We walked round the St Cross area of Winchester. Where we went along parts of the River Itchen and the Itchen Navigation. Seeing St Catherines Hill and St Catherines Mill. Part of the way round we stopped for Tea and Coffee in the St Cross Alms Houses. In the Alms houses we met some people who where walking from the alms houses to Winchester Cathedral as part of a medieval reinactment. We thought they must have been very warm in their costumes. We also saw plenty of Wildlife in and out of the Water.

Thursday 17th May 2012

This Was an Evening Walk. Seventeen of us met at the Railway Station in Hedge End and walked round the immediate area. We saw some Sculptures and a pond which had been recently added to the area as part of the development of Dowds Farm. We also saw some interesting flowers including some small yellow tulips and some pretty blue flowers which we were unable to identify. Some Walkers finished the evening with Meals or drinks in the Shamblehurst Barn which was our finishing point.

Saturday 29th October 2011

We Walked around Alresford. To start with we passed the Station where we saw that the Mid Hants Railway had several engines in steam including what we believed to be a Brittannia class locomotive. We then went through the Town down to the River and progressed along the bank enjoying the Wildlife which included a family of Swans. We also enjoyed the Autumn Colour. We then had Lunch in a Pub which backed on to a Lake.

Monday 29th August 2011

This Ramble was around Swanmore, where we enjoyed a Walk of approximately three miles through the countryside, on a sunny afternoon. We passed through country lanes and a field with Cows. The organisers had been kind enough to arrange a lovely Lunch for us at their home, and we returned for tea and cakes after the Walk.

Wednesday 10th August 2011

We walked around the public spaces near Barbe Baker Way in West End. We ended up on top of a hill where we could overlook the whole of Eastleigh and the Airport. We walked back to the lead walkers house where those who do not walk so far had cooked sausages, chilli with mash, baked potato, beans and salad. There were a cornucopia of giant puddings which undermined our healthy living aspirations. In all there were 37 of us. We sat out in the garden until it got dark. The surplus from the money paid for the Supper is to be sent to Naomi House Hospice.

Thursday 28th July 2011

We met at Holly Hill Park at Sarisbury Green, and enjoyed an early evening walk, past a pond, through Woodland and to the Edge of the Hamble River and then back via a sunken Garden. The Walk lasted about an hour.

Thursday 9th June 2011

We went to the public car park opposite the Cricketers Arms in North Stoneham. We saw a newly refurbished shrine to one of the sons of the Fleming family who died in the first world war. We then walked through Home Wood, close to Stoneham church and back around in a loop to the car park. This took us through some nice woods and farmland now enclosed by an ever growing urban environment.
